A risk assessment is a process which identifies risks and hazards that may be present in your workplace. Contact a Peninsula health & safety expert for more information.

There are five steps to a successful risk assessment. They are: Hazard identification Considering who may come to harm Risk evaluation/control measures Recording your findings Reviewing your assessment

When writing your risk assessment, make sure you record each step you take, as well as your findings and resolutions. Keep your assessment in an easily accessible place and review it regularly. For more information, speak with a Peninsula health & safety expert.

You should review your risk assessment annually and whenever you introduce a new product or process on-site. If you have one in place, you should review your assessment with your health and safety committee or health & safety representative. Rules will vary depending on your province.

While a risk assessment is not specifically required by law, it’s one of the most effective methods for controlling and eliminating hazards – which is a legal requirement in provinces across Canada.
